"Sally Gooden"
Part Four
by Steve Kaufman
Hi Friends,
Here comes the fourth and final Internet installment of "Sally Gooden". This is one of my favorite tunes to play because once you get the hang of the melody, simple as it is, you can come up with endless variations of the theme. If you want even more "Sally" variations, check out my Mel Bay book Championship Flatpicking Guitar Book/CD/DVD Set available from Mel Bay Publications, online from me at www.flatpik.com, or at your local music store. There are still more lead and rhythmic variations of "Sally" in the book.
Throughout this series of articles, we have brought "Sally G" from its original version in the key of G with only one and, if you feel frisky, two chords to the full-blown Texas-style fiddle tune it has become.
If you have made it this far through the "Sally G" series you won't need much coaching from me. Watch out for the double stops in the [B] section at measures 10 and 13. They are the same hammer-on double stops, same fingerings too- but the one in measure 13 starts a beat before you might think it would and then sustains into the following measure.
Have fun with this classic tune and see you down the road.
Practice hard and play nice!
Bye for now,
Steve K.
