This tune comes to us from Perth, Scotland- which is just above Fife, which is just north of Edinburgh (I think). I drove through them all last September and will be back again this September 1-15, roadmap in hand! Interested lads and lasses can check out the tour schedule on my website www.flatpik.com as we get closer to the fall. This tune should flow out pretty well. Note how the B section switches freely back and forth between the major and minor mode. Guitarists will have a nice stretch in measures 7 and 9. There may be other ways to finger these measures but the effect would be altered. The open-string ring is needed whenever possible, so try it as written before searching for alternate fingerings. Those of you who master this tune at a medium tempo will be challenged all over again when you take it up to speed. You could also do something different with dynamics or timbre on the repeats. Have fun with this great tune and let me know how it treats you; don't forget to check this column in July to see my contribution to the special Guitar Sessions® 7-string issue!
As always, let me know how it treats you. Bye for now, 1-800-Flatpik |
