(New York, NY – June 1, 2005) Mannes College of Music, a division of New School University, announces El Maestro/The Tradition of the Masters, the 5th New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes, from Wednesday, June 29 – Sunday, July 3, 2005. This year’s seminar focuses on pedagogy in the guitar world and will pay tribute to Bruce Holzman, teacher of many of America’s top competition winners, concert artists, and university professors. Artistic Directors of the New York Guitar Seminar are Michael Newman and Laura Oltman.

This summer’s distinguished faculty of international and New York-based guitar masters and guest speakers includes: Bruce Holzman, Eliot Fisk, Ricardo Cobo, The Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo, Ricardo Iznaola, Stephen Robinson, Lily Afshar, Adam Holzman, Michael Chapdelaine, William Carter, Leo Welch, Roger Allen Cope, Matthew Dunne, Arthur Kampela, Oren Fader, Mariano Aguirre, luthiers Thomas Humphrey and William Kramer-Harrison, author and NPR commentator Tim Brookes (Guitar: An American Life), and Mannes Techniques of Music faculty, Joel Lester (Dean of Mannes) and Christopher Park.

Highlights of this summer’s festival include: master classes; student/faculty performances; ensemble coaching; Performance Practice: Baroque Interpretation: Bach’s Violin Music for Guitarists; Jazz Arrangement Techniques for the Classical Guitarist; Guitar Makers and Their Secrets; the Value of Informed Performance: Historical and Theoretical Study of Repertoire; panel discussion and lifetime achievement award ceremony for Bruce Holzman; and world premiere performances.

For any of you who are remotely interested in or curious about harp guitars, I want to make you aware that this year’s International Harp Guitar Gathering is moving to the Pacific Northwest, to be held on Labor Day weekend.
Hopefully, this will allow many new people to attend. Nearly all of last year’s participants are scheduled to appear, along with many new faces in the growing harp guitar community.
Please note that even though “no 6-string guitars are allowed,” many 6-string players and even non-musicians attend these events – to watch, learn, enjoy and meet new people and players (Warning: some have gone away converted, with newly acquired harp guitars in tow!).
Indeed, NO “standard” guitar event is quite like this one!
You needn’t be a subscriber to Harpguitars.net to attend (though I WILL be pestering you if you show up!).
You are also welcome (and encouraged) to at least attend one of the two concerts, if you can’t make the official event.

We are a bunch of Rory Gallagher fans in Cork and decided to take matters into our own hands last year to organise an event for this summer.

Rory Gallagher was one of Irelands finest musicians and one of Cork's greatest sons. He was a genius who introduced his own modern version of the blues to a whole generation, and who paved the way for U2 and a host of other bands.

We have organised a tribute to Rory to commemorate the 10th anniversary of his death and to celebrate his music. We have eight Rory tribute bands plus guests from all over Europe and Ireland coming to play his music from 9th - 14th June. Corey Christiansen Scheduled to Play Syracuse Jazz Festival April 6, 2005

Mel Bay Records recording artist Corey Christiansen will be a featured performer at the Syracuse Jazz Festival on Sunday, June 26th. The largest jazz festival in the northeastern United States, the event attracts thousands each year to three outdoor stages on the Onondaga Community College campus overlooking Syracuse, New York.

Corey performed in the Horizon Air Special Guest Concert at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho on Thursday, February 24th. This was Corey's third appearance at the festival, where he was named Outstanding College Guitar Soloist in 1995 and 1996 and Outstanding College Guitarist in the big band division in 1995.

Corey made his third appearance at John Pisano's Guitar Night at Spazio in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 18th. He also performed at the Eastman Guitars NAMM Concert at the Coast Anaheim Hotel on Saturday, January 22nd.

Corey's toured Australia for two weeks in March for a series of clinics and performances sponsored by Allans Publishing. He's opening for Bill Frisell at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis on Friday, September 23rd and is scheduled to make his third appearance at the Smithsonian Jazz Café on Friday, October 28th.

Closer to his home in St. Louis, Corey's 2005 schedule includes mainstage appearances at the Whitaker Music Festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens (June 22) and the Webster Groves Jazz Festival in mid-September.

Awakening, Corey's first CD and the first release on Mel Bay Records, has spent the last 10 weeks on the JazzWeek chart and reached # 16 on March 2nd. Corey composed the title track, which consistently receives the most airplay from the recording.

The First International Ten-String Guitar Festival July 7-10, 2005
Litchfield, Connecticut, USA

Janet Marlow, Founder and Director of the First International Ten-String Guitar Festival announces a four day festival event from July 7- 10, 2005 bringing ten-string guitarists from around the world to Litchfield, Connecticut. The Festival is being held at the White Memorial Conference Center. Ten-String Guitarists from South Africa, Canada, Japan, South America, Europe and the United States will be attending master classes, workshops, panel discussions and participating in two major evening concerts open to the public. All levels of players and guitar enthusiasts of all ages are welcome to participate or audit workshops.

The festival is a focus on the evolution of the modern ten-string guitar which began with it's innovation by Maestro Narciso Yepes in a 1964 performance of Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez performed with the Berlin Philharmonic.
