Morning Carol
by William Bay
Morning Carol is an ideal solo for the Christmas season. It is a lyrical piece written in dropped D tuning and scored originally for 7 string guitar. However, it may be played on 6 string guitar. The alternate notes for the low 7 string pedal tones are shown in the tablature.
The piece starts at a moderate to adagio tempo. The pace should quicken slightly at measure 10. Measure 18 starts a variation of the theme in quartal harmony. At measure 22 the harmony reverts back to traditional voicings and continues on to the end. The solo ends on a lush D maj 7 with the 6th inserted into the mix.
