Last month in Guitar Sessions I discussed my experiences of going from a fog of purpose for a recording to a view of clarity, which developed simply by keeping an idea alive and an antenna up. I had mentioned the fusion of two influences that fueled this project involving inspirations seemingly coming to me from two different worlds: the refined Classical nature and the more rustic and rugged, bluesy approach with an entirely different "attitude".
In this segment I would like to offer a very simple arrangement I created of the popular seasonal tune "Silent Night" which allowed, during the recording session, enough room for the development of other instruments. Each repeat on the recording swells up into a genuine sort of coming together of sounds. The guitar part, however, takes a backseat and does not change a note other than possibly some vibratos and note treatments.
See if you can play the piece and affect the music you are playing without changing any of the actual notes.
