We Three Kings
Reharmonized as a Chord-Melody Solo
by Steve Herberman
This holiday song works exceptionally well with jazz harmonies. It is best played fingerstyle though it can also be easily adapted to pick style with a little left-hand finger muting. Measures 28-29 can be played with combination of pick and fingers.
From the beginning of the arrangement through measure 32, many chord voicings contain open strings, often with the presence of an interval of a 2nd adding pianistic color. Beginning with bar 33, the chord voicings are noticeably denser and quite lush, requiring extensive use of barré chords. Notice how the root motion from chord to chord mostly follows cycle 5 or stepwise motion. Many reharmonizations originate from a logical bass line with inner voices added.
I hope you enjoy this arrangement!
Happy Holidays,
