GillaCamp Slated for August
GillaCamp OH
August 12-14, 2005
at Sound City Music
in Troy, Ohio
Hosted by master teacher, composer, and fingerstyle wizard Richard Gilewitz, GillaCamp is the player's answer to turning over common frustrations while increasing techniques, overcoming fears and insecurities, rekindling the passion for learning new pieces, and rediscovering the joy of guitar.
Players of all levels are welcome -- from beginner to advanced and in-between, hobbyists, teachers, and professionals. Bring your favorite guitar, notebook, tape recorder, and camera. You may record the sessions, but video taping is not permitted as we may be taping the sessions. At GillaCamp you will unlock the mystery of open tunings, develop a right hand language that will "speak" any style you wish to play, and improve your rhythm by embracing the metronome instead of fearing it! The three-day session will offer you the opportunity to meet other players, share licks and stories, receive group and individual instruction, and develop a life long affection for the guitar. GillaCamp will be an experience to remember!
Upon completion of the GillaCamp, you will be able to
- comprehend and accept the realities of peaks and valleys in your playing
- develop a right hand language
- include slide guitar in your playing
- unlock the mystery of open tunings
- easily understand the complex variety of picking patterns
- read tablature and develop an understanding of reading standard notation
- select a guitar, pickup, microphone, and sound system that is right for you
- see improvement in your rhythm, playing skills, and song selection
- expand your repertoire by researching the music of other artists
- arrange, compose, or improve your own pieces
- improve your teaching skills for the benefit of your students
- perform in any type of environment with confidence
The sessions will be structured into twelve 1-hour subject selections. Before and after sessions will be devoted to individual and group practice sessions, relaxing, and options for additional private instruction with Richard if time permits. Written exercises in tablature and standard notation will be distributed throughout the sessions. General discussion during the sessions will be encouraged and the atmosphere will be relaxed, although a great deal of material will be covered in each session.

For any of you who are remotely interested in or curious about harp guitars, I want to make you aware that this year’s International Harp Guitar Gathering is moving to the Pacific Northwest, to be held on Labor Day weekend.
Hopefully, this will allow many new people to attend. Nearly all of last year’s participants are scheduled to appear, along with many new faces in the growing harp guitar community.
Please note that even though “no 6-string guitars are allowed,” many 6-string players and even non-musicians attend these events – to watch, learn, enjoy and meet new people and players (Warning: some have gone away converted, with newly acquired harp guitars in tow!).
Indeed, NO “standard” guitar event is quite like this one!
You needn’t be a subscriber to Harpguitars.net to attend (though I WILL be pestering you if you show up!).
You are also welcome (and encouraged) to at least attend one of the two concerts, if you can’t make the official event.
